“Making the decision to have a child – it’s momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside your body.”
- Elizabeth Stone
This month l have been inspired by a dear friend to write a letter to my son. l have followed her blog for a number of months and have been totally captivated by the sweet letters she writes to her children accompanied with the most gorgeous pictures (you can see her beautiful words and images here: http://www.amylucy.com/love-letters/letters-to-our-daughters-may-2012/
Thank you Amy.
My sweet son
You made me a mother, the most precious gift in this world. You have filled my heart with love, compassion and empathy and have absolutely made me a better person. Because of you, l aspire to do as much as l can to make the world a better place.
When you came very quietly into the world, we had no idea what a fun journey awaited us. Our early days were spent snuggling and getting to know you. It’s amazing how much personality you showed so early on. Even at 18mths, l can already see a bit of the man you will become and l am already super proud. You have such a good soul. l love that fiery, independent streak you have and have had ever since l can remember. The kind that means you will eat your food with a fork just like mummy and daddy, with no help whatsoever, even if it means that half of it will end up on the floor. As long as your mummy or daddy or grandma or granda or aunty are near, you are fearless. The world is your oyster. You love to explore and have adventures. If it involves water it’s even more fun. One of your favourite things to do is swim. l have been taking you since you were 10 weeks old, my little water baby. Splashing is the best.
l love watching your face when we take you somewhere new to explore. You have made the world a more exciting place for me as l get to view everything with your enthusiasm and wonder. l remember the first time you saw the moon and gazed in absolute wonder. Now one of your favourite things to do is spot the moon and you usually do, long before mummy and daddy see it.
l look forward to all the memories we still have to make and watching you grow into the amazing young man l know you are going to be. l look forward to more mess, more peek-a-boo, more uncontrollable giggling and more love.
All my love,
Mummy
