Gifts for photographers
If you know someone who is passionate about photography or you are a photographer yourself and want some ideas to send onto loved ones, then look no further. I’ve compiled a list of gift ideas for a range of budgets for the photographer in your life.
Waterproof Casing (£8-£20)
Now in an ideal world, this would be waterproof casing for a DSLR however these are very expensive (check out this company if you are interested in those though: https://saltysurfhousings.com/). But for anyone interested in underwater photography or even just getting close to water activities such as capturing snaps of their kids in the pool, then you might want to buy them waterproof casing for their phone. This casing seals your phone with a simple snap and lock mechanism. You can test it out on something not so expensive first to check that it is watertight. So far I have had no issues and have taken lots of holiday shots in the pool with my kids leading to a whole new perspective.
Instax Square Instant Camera (£99-£125)
A fun way to capture everyday moments. Sometimes when photography is a job, you can lose a bit of the passion that got you into it in the first place. This camera brings back all of the fun with none of the pressure. Also you have a tangible print in your hands, something which is missed in today’s increasingly digital world.
Polaroid SX 70 Camera (£300 - £630)
This is thing of absolute beauty - a vintage item lusted after by many an enthusiast. It takes a certain amount of getting to know to tease out some beautiful film photography but once you master it, you can take pleasure in capturing a moment and having it printed off in an instant. More on the pricey end - one for a real enthusiast or for a special occasion.

The Red Squirrel - A Future in the Forest. Images by Neil McIntyre. Words by Polly Pullar. £25
This is a bit of a love letter to our favourite red squirrel. It might sound like quite a niche book but the photography in here is world class and shows what can be achieved with one subject and a whole lot of determination.
LYS - An Intimate Journey to the North. Sandra Bartocha. Werner Bollman. £55
This book is all about capturing the beautiful landscapes and nature of the north. Both award winning photographers, Sandra Bartocha in particular is known for her unique viewpoint which results in dream-like images. This is a beautiful book which inspired me to try out new techniques and be more creative.

Masters of Landscape Photography. Various photographers. Editor Ross Hoddinott. £25.
This book dives into the world of 16 different photographers all with a unique vision and voice. Offering an insight into their working practice and the tools of their trade as well as their favourite images, it’s one for anyone interested in this genre.
Online Photography Courses (£Various)
Creative Live - They host a range of online photography workshop for all levels and skills with prices from £20 upwards.
Finn Beales and Alex Strohl Storytelling Workshop - Finn Beales was one of the first big names on Instagram. Known for his cinematic travel and storytelling photography, this course offers an insight into his methods from shoot preparation right through to post production. 299$ (although I’ve seen this course discounted several times, usually at key holidays).
Handmade Filmmaking - A course by Xanthe Berkeley. £99. Not strictly photography but a similar creative endeavour. I’ve heard lots of positive things about this 10 day online course (Xanthe also offers more in-depth filming courses). An alternative way to work on your story-telling with your imagery (whether moving or still).

Cairngorms Photography Retreat for Women This retreat will be an opportunity for participants to not only improve their photography but also work on their confidence and indulge their creative passion with other like-minded individuals.
